Common Threads

Due to COVID-19 LCISD volunteering in person on and LCISD campus is suspended until further notice.

Our summer volunteer hours are from 1:00-4:00 Tuesday through Thursday. After our Hope on the Brazos event, our hours for volunteering will be Tuesday-Thursday from 9:00-1:00 and then on Wednesdays from 12:00-6:00 up until school starts. During school, we also have a set volunteer time on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00. There is no need to sign up , just show up. If you are interested in doing a clothing or supply drive for us for service hours, to please contact Elida Castillo or Irma Garza at 832-223-0335 or by email.

Summer clothing donations are needed! Please consider donating your gently used clothing for children ages 4-18. You can drop clothing off all summer long in our blue bin located in the parking lot of Common Threads (710 Houston Street, Richmond, Texas 77406). Volunteers are also needed—please consider donating your time this summer!

Common Threads accepts donations of clothing for children ages 4-18. This can be either uniform or non-uniform clothing as well as backpacks, or school supplies. Everything must be gently worn, please! We also take purses, belts, cosmetic bags, and used books as well. We take only new socks and underwear though. Even though our hours vary, please feel free to drop off your donations at our outdoor bin located in the parking lot of Common Threads (710 Houston Street, Richmond, Texas 77406).

Please contact Elida Castillo at 832-223-0335 or email at for more information. Service/Community hours will be given for those eligible.

Lamar CISD families that find themselves in difficult situations may be eligible for assistance from Common Threads. Questions about participation in the program should be directed to the school nurse. Community members may also provide information about families needing assistance by contacting the student's school nurse. All referrals are confidential.

After the referral is approved parents and students may choose to select school clothes at Common Threads or to have a clothing request filled and sent to the campus. Each student will be provided with new or gently used sets of clothes, socks, undergarments, shoes, toiletry items and backpacks based on availability.

Parents, student organizations and community members are all welcome to volunteer at Common Threads. Volunteers can help at the campus level by assisting the school nurse with clothing drives and organizing the donations. They can also volunteer at Common Threads and assist with washing, folding, and sorting clothes; filling orders and assisting parents and students with clothing selections.
